A little while ago I wrote about the upcoming dance shoot I had been planning with an amazing mystery team that would be revealed when I released the first photo from the shoot. Well, I have the image!
This picture is a culmination of so many efforts. Fighting with teary eyes in makeup, broken flashes, and terrible weather made this image so full of passion that I can't get over it's utter perfection.

There it is! The first image from a totally stunning set. We shot at Mount Stromlo Observatory - which neither the photographer (Alexandra from True Beauty Photo Design) or the model (Kristy Lee) had shot at before. We wanted the image to be a true contrast, with a beautiful and graceful dancer against a grungy backdrop and this location was the perfect fit.
We chose to shoot using a handheld flash (which did end up getting dropped and the battery pack breaking, thank goodness for spares!) to get the high contrast and very defined shadows to add to the image. I love that you can see the stunning definition in Kristy's legs, just how I wanted it.
It started raining very heavily, but to my complete surprise none of us were deterred. Kristy danced her heart out and got completely soaked which just added to the grungy, messy look. I'm surprised she didn't freeze to death, I was standing there holding the flash and shaking! We did a mixture of classic model poses, dancing, and contortion to really give us a versatile set.
So, there you go! Dancing in the rain is definitely a lot less glamorous than the movies make it out to be, but it does produce some damn fine images <3
